Dynamics 365 vs Microsoft 365
Same “365”, very different products. Here is the difference between Microsoft’s business applications (Dynamics 365) and its productivity suite (Microsoft 365) — and why most businesses use both.
What is the difference between Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365?
Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) is the productivity suite — Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive — for everyday work, email, and collaboration. Dynamics 365 is the business-applications suite — CRM and ERP for sales, customer service, finance, and operations. They are different products that integrate tightly, and most businesses use both together.

Dynamics 365 vs Microsoft 365 FAQs
Are Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365 the same thing?
No. Despite the shared “365” branding, they are different products. Microsoft 365 is the productivity suite (Outlook, Office, Teams, SharePoint). Dynamics 365 is the business-applications suite (CRM and ERP). They integrate closely but are licensed and used separately.
Do I need both Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365?
Most businesses use both. Microsoft 365 handles email, documents, and collaboration; Dynamics 365 handles customer relationships and business operations. Because they integrate, using both gives you a connected, end-to-end Microsoft environment.
Does Dynamics 365 include Office apps like Word and Excel?
No. Office apps come with Microsoft 365. However, Dynamics 365 integrates with them — for example, you can edit Dynamics 365 data in Excel and work with records from Outlook.
Can the two suites share logins and security?
Yes. Both use Microsoft Entra ID, so users sign in with one identity and you manage security and compliance consistently across both.
Is Copilot available in both?
Yes. Microsoft Copilot spans both suites — assisting in Microsoft 365 apps like Word and Teams, and in Dynamics 365 apps like Sales and Customer Service.
